Step Two: Check for Gaps and Tears

Next, look over the popcorn packaging for any gaps and tears. If you find them, you’ll have to find another bag of popcorn. These gaps and tears can make all the difference between great popcorn and burnt popcorn. In some cases, you might even see smoke or smell something burning. To avoid this, make sure there are no gaps and tears in the popcorn packaging before you put it in the microwave.

Step Three: Test With a ‘Pop-Test’

Finally, a ‘pop-test’ is the only sure way to make sure the popcorn packaging is sealed correctly. This test is simple and easy to do – just tap the packaging a couple of times with your index finger or the back of a spoon. You should hear a few small pops and then the bag should instantly start to expand. If you don’t hear any pops after tapping the bag a few times, then you’ll know that the popcorn packaging isn’t sealed properly.
