Making Popcorn Without Unpoppeled Kernels

Whether you’re using a popcorn popper or an air popper, creating popcorn without unpoppeled kernels is a breeze. I’d like to take a minute to share my experience as a popcorn lover and microwave popcorn reviewer to help you make the most delicious and fully-popped popcorn for your next movie night.

Step One

Choose the right popcorn kernels. Not all popcorn kernels are created equal – some will will yield more popped kernels than others. I always recommend choosing smaller kernels and avoiding those that look pale or discolored.

Step Two

Measure out your kernel quantity. While the old adage “less is more” doesn’t always work when making popcorn, in this case less is indeed more. Follow your popcorn popper or air popper instructions closely to get the right amount - too many kernels and you’ll end up with plenty of unpoppeled kernels.

Step Three

Time your popcorn correctly. For popcorn poppers, make sure you’re using the right heat setting – too low and you’ll get unpoppeled kernels, too high, and your popcorn will burn. For air poppers, make sure the timer is set to the right temperature - too long and you’ll end up with burnt popcorn.

Step Four

Listen for the popping sound. This is the best way to tell when your popcorn is done cooking. Once you hear the popping begin to slow down, turn off the heat or popper and let sit for a few seconds.

By following these steps, you can easily make perfectly cooked, fully-poppeled popcorn that won’t leave you with a disappointed bowl of unpoppeled kernels.
