Hi everyone, this is David Parker from Kernel Kravings. Today, I'd like to talk about the difference between soggy and crispy popcorn.

The idea of having delicious, perfectly cooked popcorn is nothing new. What’s relatively new is how fast we can now make it. With microwavable popcorn, we can get crunchy popcorn kernels in under five minutes.

When it comes down to it, there are two main types of popcorn: soggy and crispy. Soggy popcorn is the kind you get when you don’t use enough butter on the kernels, or take it out too soon. Your popcorn will usually lose its crunchiness and become soft, often turning a pale yellow color as it cools.

Crispy popcorn is the type you want to aim for. This popcorn retains its crunchy exterior and fluffy interior, often coming out a deep golden-yellow in color. Creating crispy popcorn is all about timing — you have to keep an eye on the kernels to ensure that you take them out just before they turn brown. Using a good amount of butter also helps keep the kernels’ coating intact.

Keep in mind though, it may take a few attempts to get crispy popcorn just right. Don’t worry though — if you ever need help perfecting your popcorn technique, sign up for the Kernel Kravings newsletter for tips and tricks.

So, that’s the difference between soggy and crispy popcorn. Get it right and you’ll have the perfect batch of popcorn just in time for movie night. Sign up for the Kernel Kravings newsletter to learn more about the perfect popcorn technique.
