You've been there before – the popcorn explodes out of the microwave and looks like an unappetizing mess. You try again, setting the timer for a few seconds less, only to end up with an equally unappetizing bowl of unpopped kernels and barely-popped popcorn. So, how do you make the perfect bowl of microwave popcorn, every time?

I'm Steven Fox and I've been making my own microwave popcorn at home for over 30 years. The secret to perfect microwave popcorn is all in the timing. Whether you use pre-packaged microwave popcorn or go old-school and pop kernels from scratch, it doesn't take long to get it just right.

If you're working with pre-packaged microwave popcorn, all you have to do is follow the instructions on the back of the package. They provide a very accurate time for the perfect bowl of popcorn.

If you're popping your own kernels at home, you simply have to experiment with the right amount of time. Start with 1 minute and 30 seconds and take it out, shake the bowl and if it all looks good, you're done! If you still see many unpopped kernels, simply give it another 15 seconds and check it once more. If, after 2 minutes, you still have many unpopped kernels, reduce the time for your next batch.

Making the perfect bowl of microwave popcorn doesn't have to be difficult. With a little patience and experimentation, you'll be munching away in no time. Now that you know the secret, go out and make some delicious popcorn and don't forget to sign up for the Kernel Kravings newsletter to get the latest tips and tricks for making the best microwave popcorn.
